Another Pandemic

On the 9th of September, it was reported that few cases of the pink virus in the region of Sindh. At the end of  September, It broke out in the whole region of Sindh. Infecting a few other regions including the twin city of Islamabad. Conjunctivitis also known as the Pink virus is a transmittable infection. Which some say is the cause of less rainfall. But doctors have declared it as an epidemic threat for Pakistan. There is a slight chance it can be a variant of COVID-19. Till now it was not considered serious but due to an uprise in the cases, precautionary measures are to be observed. 

The extent of Danger in Pink Virus

Pink virus symptoms can be redness of the eyes, grittiness, itching, excessive water discharge, swelling, and irritation. Doctors claim this virus lasts for 7 days. But Severity can depend on the health state of the patient. For instance, if the patient is already suffering from diseases such as cancer or hepatitis, the pink virus may get immunized to it. It may last longer than the expected time. But keep in mind that this virus can attack any age group. It is better to follow precautionary measures and avoid getting in contact with this virus. 

Provision against Pink virus

Precautionary measures follow covering your eyes from dust. Direct sun rays should be avoided by wearing sunglasses. Most preferably is Black and green. Avoid rubbing your eyes, or any self-made remedies. And especially, do not use any eye drops without the prescription of a doctor. Rinse your eyes with cold water periodically.  Use tissue paper instead of cloth, and then dispose of it. 

Cure for Pink virus

According to local authorities, no cure has been found or as such available in the market yet. DRAP (Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan) has called for CYF 003 from pharmaceutical markets across the country. Doctors have confirmed that this particular formula is used only for eye infections, if used for this virus may cause adverse effects.  Still, efforts are made to overcome this scenario.

Government response

The government did not respond in the beginning but after observing the overall condition, they have decided to observe a holiday for the next 2 days. On 28th Sep and 29th Sep, all the Public and Private Sector schools and colleges will observe holidays.
